ROLANDA'S MAGICAL BOUTIQUE
The window display at Rolanda boutique is truly magical. There is a dreamlike quality that draws you into the shop. A bit like Alice in Wonderland, but in this case you find yourself wandering into a romantic setting filled with an eclectic mix of vintage clothing and classic French designs.
"There is so much energy here, it is fantastic and her ideas are so innovative, "says a shop assistant who works part-time in the boutique to help with the hectic flow of customers.
Rolanda is rather discreet and soft spoken. She is also a canny business- woman and is the owner of three exclusive boutiques. She pays careful attention to detail and doesn't miss a thing. As she receives customers in her Battersea branch one can sense that each customer is a friend as she gives personal attention to each client, responding to their needs, smiling and chatting amicably.
There are magazine cuttings neatly displayed on the wall such as a write-up about Gwyneth Paltrow and various London socialites. Her celebrity clientele include young royals, film stars and models. Yet, Rolanda's boutique is the best-kept secret among the elite because the atmosphere is relaxed and Rolanda 's style is one of subtle chic, there is an avoidance of fanfare.
Besides clothes, the boutique is like a treasure chest filled with an assortment of bags, shoes, hats, custom jewellery and unique pieces that it would be hard to find duplicates. What is most amazing is that the clothes are affordable. Sourcing all these treasures clearly involves a lot of work which Rolanda relishes, she has an innate sense of knowing what her customers want. She also enjoys discovering young innovative designers, which tends to add a fresh touch to her boutique collection. Rolanda visits Paris, New York; anywhere she can find just the right style to suit the taste of her customers. In the midst of all this activity she still finds time to host a cable television chat show and organizes dazzling fashion shows.
Does Rolanda follow trends?
"Oh no," she says, in a definite manner," I rely on my instincts to decide what will stand out. I don't like to be influenced by what I see around me. I also love colour."
