MODELLING FOR CATALOGUES

What makes modelling for catalogues a good idea is that there is a need for different types of models; petite, full figure, ethnic and older models. It allows for versatility but you also need a lot of stamina; shooting for a whole day requires concentration and you have to look good throughout. It also means that you need to model about 20-30 outfits in a day. The positive side is that catalogue work is quite frequent as the seasons and fashion trends tend to change regularly and the catalogues need to reflect this.
What makes a good catalogue model?
*A good catalogue model needs to be prepared to travel for fashion shoots abroad, in exotic locations. It can be quite exciting if you enjoy travelling.
*To model the clothes it is best to project the outfit and not your personality, the focus is on the clothes not on the model.
*Catalogues require women of different sizes, so do your homework and find out which catalogue companies are interested in your look. Also women from different ethnic groups and of different ages are used.
*Pay close attention to directions from the photographer, he will be giving you instructions on how to pose.
