Have you got what it takes

How do you look? Women Are you 5'8" (1.70m) or taller? This is the average acceptable height for modelling though acceptable height for modelling though sme agencies accept models at 5'6" and a few prefer 5'10". Photographic models can be 5'6" alhough 5'8" is preferred. Do you weigh 7 - 8 stone ( 50-55kg)? What are your measurements? Do you wear a dress size 10 or small 12? The ideal body measurements for fashion modelling are between 32-22-34 and 36-25-36, but there is some flexibility. In the 1960s, Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy made the skinny look fashionable; in the 1980s, a more voluptuous shape, like Cindy C rawford's, become ideal. In the last few years models like Jodie Kidd are in demand. |

How old are you? You should be 14-25 maximum. The chances
of starting a career as a fashion model after 25 virtually nil: most agencies
are not willing to take on a new model who might not be working long enough
to return their investment. A specialist agency will take on older models.
Some models start when they are 15 or 16, but it's not too late even if
you are 18 or 21. There are no set rules, only guidelines, Linda Evangelista
started modelling when she was 16, but only made it as a supermodel in her
twenties. Models that are smaller or larger than the measurements above are mostly used in advertising, but their prospects can be limited. Some agencies which specialise in advertising will take on, but you must be exceptional and have a perfectly shaped body and flawless skin. However, being beautiful isn't enough in the modelling business. Even if you think you have something that makes you different, you need to know the basic modelling requirements. |
