BEAUTY INSIDE AND OUT
Beauty takes many forms. To be a top model you will have to have the look
of the moment. If you want to brush up on the very latest styles, read
fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Marie-Claire. They're great
leaders in what influences the look at the moment. Designers play a major
role in what type of models a model agency will take on. When Kate Moss
was chosen by Calvin Klein for his advertising campaign the waif look
became instantly popular. In a matter of days every agency was on the
look-out for more waif-like models, putting the curvier models on hold.
However, even though the waif look is popular, fuller look is just as
acceptable. Do you have a clear, evenly-toned skin and even, white teeth,
and are you slim? If so, then perhaps you could become a fashion model,
showroom model or photographic model. Maybe you have beautiful hands and
legs - have you ever considered being a part model? If you are shorter
or heavier than the average stock size, you may fit in a more specialised
market for 'oversized' or 'petite' modelling. Maybe you look like a famous
celebrity or have a particularly expressive face; then you should try
look-alike or character modelling.
If you think that appearance is enough, think again. You
also need determination, inner drive, patience and a great personality,
what agency mogul Eileen Ford calls the 'X Factor'. The X-Factor can be
described as a special spark that a model possesses. A good model can
project many different looks-she can be a sexy siren one minute and a
naïve girl the next.
