Should Leona Lewis win Pop Idol?
Well that crusty programme X Factor has made its return and it is nearly at
its end. I have to say that I did watch the first X Factor. I was indeed part
of the masses that watched it avidly, and watched Joe public salivate like rabid
dogs for some bit of the lights and adulation that is stardom. I to cracked
up in the comfort of my lounge safe in the knowledge I knew that my voice was
shit! Further than that I sat there watching the first show and wondered do
none of them realise that the slow strangulation of a very ill cat would have
more harmony than what they were producing. It was and still is at times plain
funny.
Well now we are at the final and I had until recently stayed by my view that
it's a load of rubbish and I will not watch this crass anymore. I am not against
the chance for people to break into the industry. On the contrary I think it's
a solid idea but I'm fed up of the programme being more about itself than the
singers. I'm fed up of Sharon as the matriarch controlling her two little boys
who have "brotherly" confrontations all for the sake of ratings. The
formula is irritating.
Recently however I have been watching it for the sake of one main reason and
that is Leona Lewis. Da girl has got class, talent and a vocal range which to
me (a non-singer) seems amazing and more amazing by the fact that I'm sure she's
got a lot more to give and learn. The comparisons to a young Mariah Carey are
obvious and I am sure flattering at the moment. Bar Robert Lewis who should
have never been voted off, the line up is questionable. (Macdonald brothers
are crap and their mother has got a huge phone bill as one individual said.)
Leona should by all rights win but to be honest I don't want her to win.
Looking at the list of winners of this show and other similar shows,(not including
American Pop Idol) most of the winners have disappeared into the graveyard of
the "give them a chance" reality shows. Think Steve Brocken....something
where's he? Think Gareth Gates where is he? Even the "amazing Shayne"
is slightly off the Richter you get me? No. It can't happen to her. You can
see Simon "more money" Cowell rubbing his hands. It's not to say that
she can't be a success with him but I just feel that she could take British
Urban music to a new level and have a real chance of being really successful
in the US. Urban British music producers and management that know the game and
will take their time with her rather than seeing her, sucking her for what she
is worth and done.
It would be cool if she took a route like Lemar who has slowly but surely made
himself one of the bankable black urban singers. He did not win (whatever that
programme was) but look now. I think it is telling that she always says "I
just love singing". Sorry love but that's not enough. There are dogs out
there that will take advantage of someone that utters those words. She has obviously
got family so it's not a case of being a new born lamb looking to make friends
with a pack of wolves. I'm sure her family are going to be very protective and
wary but she needs time to get used to the game. Simon Cowell's route is quick,
all encompassing and ultimately about what she can do for his ever expanding
bank balance. Greedy **^$*&% leave her alone!!!!!!!!!!!!
